The Gītāgovinda is a 12th-century Sanskrit poem written by the poet Jayadeva, which is highly revered in the worship of Lord Jagannath of Puri, Odisha. It is a devotional lyrical poetry centered around the divine love of Lord Krishna (Jagannath) and Radha. In the Jagannath temple, select verses from the Gītāgovinda are sung daily during rituals.
Every night, select verses from Gītāgovinda are sung during the Bada Singhara Besha (last ritual of the day).
Temple sevayats (servitors) use silken clothes called Gita Govinda Khandua printed with verses for dressing the deities.
